Revenue is often celebrated as the ultimate marker of success in healthcare IT. It’s the most visible trophy, the number plastered on the slide deck, and the focus of countless boardroom conversations. But what if we’re all overlooking an equally important — or dare I say, more critical — metric? Profitability.

The healthcare IT industry is booming. Companies are bringing in millions, signing contracts with major hospital networks, and delivering innovative solutions that transform patient care. Yet behind these headline-worthy numbers lies a profitability crisis no one wants to discuss. Many organizations are grinding away for more revenue, only to see profits dwindle and sustainability threatened. Pause for the layoffs.

I’m a solutions person, so today, I’m addressing the profit problem that healthcare IT doesn’t discuss nearly enough. More importantly, we’ll explore actionable ways to shift focus from chasing dollars to creating authentic, scalable profit margins.
